Screening Criteria - DCD - Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia

Screening Criteria – Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) - Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia


Accepted Medical Consultant/Specialist

Students should ideally be diagnosed within a multi disciplinary team setting.

You should submit a report by an appropriately qualified Psychologist that assesses cognitive abilities and identifies educational needs

And

Submit a report from an Occupational Therapist OR Neurologist that assesses motor skills and functioning.

The diagnosing professionals should be members of their respective professional or regulatory body.
Evidence of Disability
  1. You must submit a full psycho-educational assessment from an appropriately qualified Psychologist

    And
  2. Complete the Evidence of Disability Form OR submit an existing report completed by an Occupational Therapist OR Neurologist which contains the same detail as the Evidence of Disability Form. 

The report should state difficulties from childhood or provide evidence detailing the long-standing presence of Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) / Dyspraxia/ Dysgraphia, and that the applicant is presenting with difficulties that have impacted on home and school.

Age of Report The report from an appropriately qualified psychologist assessing cognitive abilities must be less than 3 years old, i.e. must be dated after 1st Feb 2009.
While there is no age limit on report from an Occupational Therapist or Neurologist, it is advisable to submit a recent report.
Other Disabilities/Medical Conditions Submit an Evidence of Disability Form for each disability / medical condition to be considered
Personal Statement and Academic Reference

Your personal statement should outline the impact of disability on your academic and educational experience to date.

Your Academic Reference gives background information on your educational experience, including the impact your disability has had on your education. It also describes the supports and adaptations you will need in third level.

DARE Eligibility

We will consider your application for DARE once we receive a diagnosis of Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) - Dyspraxia/Dysgraphia.
